The Summit Within: Embracing the Beauty of Imperfection

As you may know, I have been working on a book for the past couple of years. It is the book I have wanted to write for over twenty years, based on my experiences with Terry in Mexico, taking teams to climb Izta Volcano. It is a mosaic of conversations over more than 30 years as a team leader and LDHR practitioner. I finished the book recently, and I am excited to share it with you.

Some mountains aren’t made of stone. As you join Maria on her journey up Mexico’s Izta Volcano, you’ll discover that the greatest peaks we climb often live in our own hearts. Through adventure, humor, and unexpected turns, this story shows how true leadership emerges when we dare to embrace our imperfections.

Why This Book Matters:

  • We all wrestle with self-doubt, anxiety, and other internal stories that can derail us.
  • Teams navigate changes and challenges.
  • Many people feel like they are “not enough”.
  • Leaders desire to grow in their influence and relationships.

How to Use This Book:

  1. Personal Growth: Take this climb at your own pace. Use the reflection questions to explore your own leadership journey and heart transformation.
  2. Team Development: The discussion guide makes this perfect for team reading and developmental discussions. Explore crucial topics like:
    – Developing a ‘We, not Me’ vision
    – Leading through crisis
    – Building authentic connections
    – Turning weaknesses into strengths
    – Creating trust and vulnerability
  3. Leadership Tools: Detailed endnotes connect the story to strategy, helping you:
    – Navigate crucial conversations
    – Build resilient teams

Take your first step on this transformative journey. The summit is waiting.

Thank you. I am still a fellow learner and journeyed. I can’t wait to hear what you learn from your reading. What impacts you? Or better, which of the characters impacts you?

  2. I’ve loved reading this book so much! Steve, thanks so much for the huge investment of time. Praying this will impact us as a movement as we grow and tell our own stories of leadership.

Thanks Paul. Yes, I like how you put that about the growth and the stories we tell. I know I and others can live out a false narrative, and our growth is stunted by our tendencies. Having self-awareness of those stories that limit us can help us build a new narrative-one of God’s grace. We are transformed from His grace in spite of of our imperfections. Thank you for reading. That means a lot, mate.
